Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric pips Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah to win Uefa Men's Player of the Year

The Real Madrid star had a ceremony to remember after he also scooped the Best Midfielder Award for the second consecutive campaign.


The Croatian international – nominated for the Best Player for the first time – was honoured for his spectacular year.

He starred as he helped Real win their third successive Champions League, while he was also instrumental in guiding his nation to the World Cup final.

The ex-Tottenham magician pipped Toni Kroos and Kevin De Bruyne to be named as the Best Midfielder.

It was commiserations for Salah, who banged in an astounding 44 goals in 52 games last season to help Liverpool reach the Champions League final.


Los Blancos shot-stopper Keylor Navas was named as the Uefa Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Costa Rican international pipped Gianluigi Buffon and Alisson to the award – despite keeping just two clean sheets in 11 games.

While his Real team-mate Sergio Ramos was crowned as the Uefa Defender of the Year.

He fended off competition from fellow Madrid stars Marcelo and and Raphael Varane to claim the award for the second successive season.


And Ronaldo completed a clean sweep for Real in the awards after beating Salah and Lionel Messi to win the Uefa Forward of the Year Award for the third time.

Danish international Pernille Harder won the Uefa Women's Player of the Year after a stunning season with Wolfsburg.

The 25-year-old won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal with the German side, while she also netted in the Champions League defeat against Lyon.

David Beckham won the Uefa President's Award, that honours outstanding achievements, professional excellence and exemplary personal qualities.

Former Vitesse centre-back Guram Kashia won the inaugaral Equal Game Award, following his decision to wear a rainbow-striped armband during a match against Heracles last season.

The San Jose Earthquakes ace receieved criticism in his native Georgia after he showed support for the LGBT community.
