Premier League sack race odds – Mikel Arteta even-money favourite to be first manager axed, Vieira & Bruce in behind

MIKEL ARTETA is the even-money favourite to be the first Premier League manager sent packing this season.

The Arsenal boss was available at 16/1 ahead of the 2021-22 campaign but that price has shortened considerably to Evens after successive defeats to newly-promoted Brentford and Chelsea.

The Gunners were comfortably beaten 2-0 by their London rivals courtesy of goals from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James.

The defeat was only the third time Arsenal have lost their opening two Premier League matches in a season and the first without scoring.

Arteta's side play West Brom in the Carabao Cup tonight before their next top-flight game against champions Manchester City on Saturday.

After the match, a disgruntled Arteta claimed his side were facing a "difficult and unprecedented situation" with several of his squad missing through illness or Covid.

He said: "I don't think the club in their history have faced something like this.

  • Mikel Arteta – EVS
  • Ralph Hasenhuttl – 7/1
  • Xisco – 7/1
  • Patrick Vieira – 9/1

"We have to face the challenge. The league or table is not decided in August. The worst thing you can do is throw in the towel. We certainly are not going to do that.

"You have to understand the situation we have. We are missing nine players, and it is difficult. It is not just nine players – they are some big, big players."

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is 7/1 second favourite despite a creditable draw with title hopefuls Manchester United at St Mary's.

Watford's Xisco is also available at 7s after following their opening day victory over Aston Villa with defeat to Brighton.

Patrick Vieira, whose side were held to a goalless draw by Brentford and lost to a weakened Watford in the Carabao Cup, is offered at 9/1.

Newcastle's Steve Bruce and Burnley's Sean Dyche have both failed to register a point this season and share odds of 12/1.
