Kanye West files to legally change name to Ye amid divorce from Kim Kardashian

Kanye West has asked an LA court to legally change his name to Ye and is now waiting for a judge to approve his request.

The billionaire rapper has said that his decision to change his name is due to "personal reasons" which he declared in the court documents filed in Los Angeles, reports PA.

The 44-year-old fashion designer has been coined Ye for the past few years and he even used the nickname as the title of his 2018 album.

In September that year, he raised eyebrows when he first signalled that he wanted to officially shorten his name.

At the time, he tweeted: "The being formally known as Kanye West I am YE."

He must now wait for a judge to approve his request before it becomes official.

Kim Kardashian's ex also told a US radio host the name held religious significance for him, claiming it is the most commonly used word in the Christian bible.

The star is reportedly about to drop his 10th studio album, Donda, which he named after his late mother.

He is due to hold yet another listening party in his hometown of Chicago later this week to launch the record.

This comes after two similar events that were celebrating the same thing, but the album was still not released.

His divorce to reality queen Kim is still going through after she filed to end their seven-year marriage in February this year due to "irreconcilable differences".

The former couple share four children together, North, 8, Saint, 5, Chicago, 3, Psalm, 2.

The family have been turning up in full force to his previous listening parties, with Kim's getup sparking controversy during the second round.

Her fans were completely confused by her outfit choice, a full black Balenciaga jumpsuit and mask, with narrow slits for just her eyes and mouth.

The reality TV queen attended the event with her children and their friends.

The 40-year-old shared snaps of her all-black ensemble from the occasion at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which left tons of her fans in a state of complete confusion.

One questioned the star and asked: "Why though."

A second quizzed: "what are we doing love??????"

While a third penned: "North be like "what the hell?"

Another said: "This is terrifying."
