Penguins’ Sidney Crosby wonders why Tom Wilson won’t stop making illegal hits

Penguins center Sidney Crosby made it clear Monday where he stands on Capitals winger Tom Wilson’s latest illegal hit, which has earned Wilson a trip to New York on Wednesday for an in-person hearing with the department of player safety.

“You also understand there are instances where guys get hit and it’s part of the game. It happens fast and it’s intense out there,” Crosby told reports. “When a guy does it a handful of times, you start to question what the intent is.”

Wilson earned a match penalty for a vicious, open-ice, shoulder-to-the-head against Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist in a preseason game Sunday. Sundqvist left the game bloodied and did not return.

Blues coach Mike Yeo said Sundqvist, a former Penguin, was "not good" and had a "couple upper body injuries." Yeo said Sundqvist would be out a while.

Over the past year, Wilson has been suspended three times. An in-person hearing is offered to allow for a suspension of six or more games. One of Wilson’s suspensions came for a playoff hit against Penguins forward Zach Aston-Reese that resulted in a broken jaw and concussion.
