New ‘Sports Direct' shop in Sunderland mocks ‘horse punching’ Newcastle fans who want to protest against Mike Ashley

A cheeky store owner has taken aim at Mike Ashley’s discount sportswear emporium by using the logo on the front of their business.

But the sign also contains a number of messages aimed at Newcastle fans who have been protesting Ashley in recent weeks.

Swathes of Magpies supporters want him to sell up after seeing Rafa Benitez’s cut-price squad pick up just two points from their first eight Premier League games this season.

Ashley was mobbed outside a restaurant after treating Benitez and the Newcastle team to a pizza dinner.

And those in Sunderland appear to be finding the whole situation extremely funny, despite suffering back-to-back relegations in the past two years.

The ‘Sports Direct’ shop was spotted on Hylton Road, while including a few statements sure to anger loyal Toon followers.

One reads: “Pop-up shout shop for sad Newcastle United fans to yell and scream at.”

The other is a fake URL which includes: “6inarow/horsepunchers/scum.”

It shows Black Cats supporters still haven’t forgiven their rivals after one punched a horse after the Wear-Tyne derby in 2013, and Newcastle fans are sure to be even more determined to get rid of Ashley as a result.
