Despite twice going down injured, the Spanish keeper refused to be subbed off against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.
Both Kepa and Sarri initially claimed the dramatic incident had been a "misunderstanding".
Sarri held talks with Kepa on Monday and the keeper was later fined a week's wages, worth up to £190,000.
However, Sarri has extended the punishment by dropping Kepa with Willy Caballero instead in between the posts tonight.
Chelsea fans reacted to the news Kepa had been dropped, with some joking the Spaniard will refuse to be benched and come on instead.
One said: "Scenes when Kepa subs himself on."
Another said: "Fully expect Kepa to pull his gloves on and go and stand between the posts anyway."
Caballero, who Sarri wanted to bring on at Wembley, will make his first league start of the season, adding to his seven cup appearances this campaign.
Sarri said: "It’s a choice. It’s a message to my group – that we are a group and not 25 players. It’s my choice."
SunSport exclusively revealed Kepa had a stand-up row with Caballero at Wembley after claiming he was the better goalkeeper.
His incendiary remarks infuriated Caballero who was supposed to come on for the pens.
The two squared up in the Wembley dressing room as it all kicked off after the shootout defeat.
Kepa later publicly apologised to his manager and supporters.
He claimed he was “misunderstood” for wanting to explain that he was not injured.
Sarri initially stated he would not punish his record £71million stopper, insisting it was a misunderstanding.
However, with the Blues board fining the rebel keeper a weeks wage, and not being dropped, it is clear Sarri and his Stamford Bridge chiefs think of the incident as more than a misunderstanding.
