Clare hurlers dealt with John Conlon injury blow

Clare hurler John Conlon is likely to miss the remainder of the Banner’s Allianz League campaign, after suffering an ankle injury.

The full forward was forced ashore during the win over Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford at Cusack Park last weekend.

After winning an All-Stars award in 2018, the Clonlara club man picked up right from where he left off so far this season, scoring 2-6 from play in his last three games.

Joint managers Donal Moloney and Gerry O’Connor must now plan without the forward as they plan for their final Division 1A group game at home to All-Ireland champions Limerick on Sunday, before a potential quarter-final or relegation play-off.

Conlon’s absence comes as a blow to the side, chasing their first Allianz Hurling League title since 2016. Nonetheless, it offers others an opportunity to impress. Diarmuid Ryan and Colin Guilfoyle are among those to have made names for themselves so far in the springtime campaign.

Their primary focus remains the Munster Championship, which they open away to Waterford on May 12.
