Jeremy Sarmiento: The Charlton rookie has joined Benfica's English revolution in Lisbon

In doing so, Sarmiento  joined former Arsenal starlet Chris Willock, 20, at the Estádio da Luz to continues his footballing education.

It's a trend that British footballers are following in search of much-needed first team action.

And, if the reviews of Sarmiento's game are to be believed, it won't be long before he's starting for the Águias.

The attacking player operated on the wing for Addicks youth teams, even featuring in their Under 23 side last term.

Coaches held the slight prospect in high regard, expecting him to have the quality to deliver in that famed number ten role.

In fact Steve Avory, Charlton's academy manager, called Sarmiento "an exciting player … a wide forward, rather than a winger."

Born in Madrid to Ecuadorian parents, the England Under 16 international moved to London when he was 7.

Torn between representing the Three Lions and his parents' country, he has played for Ecuador's Under 15s.

Should Sarmiento impress in Portugal, there will surely be a clamour for him to be considered for selection for Selecção das Quinas, if he adopts Portuguese citizenship, of course.
