Now that the theme and hosts for next year’s Met Gala have been announced, the guest-list rumor mill is already churning.
Along with Lady Gaga and Harry Styles, Serena Williams will co-chair the event, sparking speculation that the tennis pro’s close friend Meghan Markle might attend along with her new husband, Prince Harry.
Williams attended the royal wedding in May, while the Duchess of Sussex returned the favor by cheering Williams on at Wimbledon over the summer.
More recently, Williams, 37, said that she regularly texts Markle, 37, and that the two have become even closer as of late. “We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently,” she revealed in September.
The two famous friends also have a fashion connection — as part of her namesake clothing collection, Williams designed a “Royal Duchess” hoodie with Markle in mind, and even sent the piece to Kensington Palace.
It wouldn’t be the first time a member of the royal family has attended the Met Gala: In 1996, Princess Diana went to the Christian Dior-themed event, while Prince Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie showed up at this year’s “Heavenly Bodies” gala.
