‘I fear the worst’ – Piers Morgan leaks Cristiano Ronaldo text conversation before Arsenal’s crushing win over Man Utd

PIERS MORGAN admitted he "feared the worst" ahead of Arsenal's lunchtime kick off against Manchester United.

He personally texted good friend Cristiano Ronaldo, begging the United star not to score a goal at the Emirates against his beloved Arsenal.

Morgan did the same before the reverse fixture at Old Trafford back in December – a game in which Ronaldo netted twice in a 3-2 win.

And despite not heeding his request on that occasion, Morgan still pleaded with CR7 not to score in north London today.

Morgan wrote on Twitter: "Texted Ronaldo begging him not to score against us today. He said he won’t.

"Last time we played them in December he made the same promise then scored twice as they beat us 3-2.

"I fear the worst."

Sure enough Ronaldo did find the back of the net on Saturday, sweeping home a Nemanja Matic cross to find the back of the net.

It was the 37-year-old's 100th Premier League goal, and came just days after the heartbreaking death of his newborn baby.

He dedicated the goal to his son, pointing to the sky in north London after finding the back of the net.

Unlike last time out against Arsenal, Ronaldo's goal today came in a losing effort.

Morgan's beloved Gunners comfortably won the game 3-1, heaping yet more misery on Manchester United.

Goals from Nuno Tavares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka meant Ronaldo's strike came in vain.

The result sees Mikel Arteta's side leapfrog three points ahead of Tottenham into fourth the Premier League table, although Spurs are in action later this evening against Brentford.

United meanwhile kissed their hopes of Champions league qualification goodbye with defeat.

Ralf Rangnick's side are now six points behind Arsenal, having also played a game more.
