How Newcastle could line up at end of transfer window with even stronger XI than team that demolished Aston Villa | The Sun

NEWCASTLE got their season off to a flying start by hammering Aston Villa 5-1… and their starting XI could get even stronger.

The Toon saw summer signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes score on their competitive debuts on Saturday night.

And more new players could soon join as manager Eddie Howe looks to bolster his squad ahead of the club's return to the Champions League.

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney is on Newcastle's radar as they explore a potential loan move.

The Gunners would prefer to sell and he could be available for around £30million – although an injury to Jurrien Timber could throw a spanner in the works.

Chelsea's Marc Cucurella is also an option to compete for the position with Dan Burn due to him dropping down the pecking order under new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Newcastle are also looking to add a new centre-back to their squad.

Crystal Palace star Joachim Andersen is supposedly a leading candidate, but the Eagles could demand between £40m and £50m.

The Dane could partner the left-sided defender Sven Botman at the back and rotate with Fabian Schar.

There is plenty of selection dilemmas for Howe elsewhere on the pitch.
