Gennady Golovkin vs Canelo Alvarez in doubt over Mexican’s choice of gloves

GGG's team are protesting to the Nevada Athletic Commission about the No Boxing No Life brand – never before used in the US.

The gloves – created by Canelo's trainer Eddy Reynoso – have only ever been used in the Mexican's training camp and at an amateur tournament in Mexico.

Now, Golovkin's trainer Abel Sanchez has opened up to ESPN Deportes about their objections, saying: "If you notice, they are gloves that have never been used in a championship fight.

"Not just in a championship fight, but they have never been used in four, six, eight and ten rounds."

The Nevada Athletic Commission have given the gloves the green light for the clash in Las Vegas on September 13.

But Sanchez is worried about the lack of testing, adding: "We did not feel that it was fair to use them because they have not been tested, we do not know if they are going to break.

“Can you imagine if they break in the third round and Canelo gets the advantage to recover or take a break.

"They're just gloves that have not been used. We have no problem with other brands, we just want them to fight with gloves that are tested, so we are ensured that they will not be damaged.

"Gloves are very important in a fight and it does not have anything to do with the fact that they are Mexican [gloves]."
