Brighton followed up last May’s shock 1-0 Premier League win with a comfortable 3-2 triumph.
And after the dismal defeat Red Devils skipper Pogba confessed: “I put myself first, my attitude wasn’t right. I should have done much better, made less mistakes and controlled the game.
“Brighton had more hunger. Our performance was not good enough.
“It’s twice in a row we’ve lost against Brighton and that shouldn’t happen. Last year we had almost the same attitude and it’s not right.
“I’m disappointed with my own performance and the team performance. The attitude we had was not like we wanted to beat them.
“I know we cannot always play very well, but at least the attitude has to be right and we missed that today.
“It was a bad performance from all of us. We have to wake up for the next game.”
Brighton raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Glenn Murray and Shane Duffy within three minutes of each other thanks to some shambolic United defending.
Romelu Lukaku grabbed one back but Albion went in 3-1 up at half-time when Pascal Gross netted from the penalty spot after being brought down by Eric Bailly.
Pogba did score a spot-kick himself deep into second-half stoppage time but by then it was far too late.
And the United captain admitted United fans had every right to be furious at their team’s dire display.
Pogba, 25, told the club’s own channel MUTV: “They should be very mad today. We are very mad, everybody is very mad.
“We made mistakes we shouldn’t make.”
Defender Bailly and Victor Lindelof were particularly poor and underlined manager Jose Mourinho’s desire for a new centre-back in the summer.
And Pogba added: “We’re not here just to play games, to be in the Premier League. We are Manchester United and we want to win trophies.”
