Former West Brom midfielder Darren Carter recalls Arsenal wonder strike as he eyes Gunners reunion with Solihull Moors

Back in 2005, the midfielder stunned Arsene Wenger's side with a left-footed screamer as the Baggies recorded a famous 2-1 victory.

Against a star-studded team that included Dennis Bergkamp and Robert Pires, Carter had only been on the field for eight minutes when he left Jens Lehmann diving across his goal in despair.

Over 13 years have passed since the 34-year-old's wonder goal but Solihull Moors' potential FA Cup third round tie against Arsenal has brought the memories back to the forefront of his mind.

"It's definitely number one in terms of the goals I've scored," he recalls.

"I've seen it plenty of times. If you have moments like that it's great to cherish them and be proud.

"Any footballer will say, you have your fair share of ups and downs in the game so with any ups you have to celebrate them.

"I still talk to West Brom fans about it today, they'll come up and chat to me."

Carter currently marshals the midfield for high-flying Moors managed by former England keeper Tim Flowers.

The National League side know they face by far the biggest game of their existence if they can overcome a tough trip to League One Blackpool for their FA Cup second round replay on Tuesday.

With over 200 appearances across the Premier League and Championship, local lad Carter will not be fazed by the task that awaits.

He added: "As players it's easy to get carried away at what could be. Of course we are excited by it, it's a real incentive but we know we've got a huge hurdle to get over.

"We have a very humble dressing room and a real good set of lads but no one is getting carried away in the dressing room that's for sure."

Flowers' side drew 0-0 in the first-leg to record their seventh clean sheet in a row in all competitions.

The former Birmingham and Preston veteran is confident his side can pull of a famous shock if they are more clinical with their chances.

"Both teams had chances to win the game and in the end it was a fair result. We know that we need to make sure that we're organised and strong and that we don't concede many chances.

"We've got players who can create a bit of magic and score goals. Any chances we get we hope to be clinical and take one of them."

Carter is reaching his own personal milestone and is just eight appearances away from hitting 500 in all competitions.

Despite his age he played 48 times last season for Solihull and insists he still has that same love for football as the 18-year-old bursting onto the scene for Birmingham.

Although he admits he has no plans to hang up his boots just yet, he is realistic that the day will arrive and is already taking measures to stay in football by managing Solihull Moors' academy side.

Carter added: "When you're a young player you've got so much excitement and you are really looking at what you want to achieve.

"As you go through your career and you’re in the thick of it and you get a little bit older and that’s when you start to savour and appreciate the profession you’re in.

"One day I’ll have to hang the boots up and hopefully that’s a long way away but I still love the game. I’ll play as long as I enjoy it and as long as the legs can carry me around the pitch.

"I’m academy manager at the Moors and again that’s something that I’ve gravitated towards.

"You see a player who you’ve given advice to or you’ve coached a little bit and he goes and has success – that’s just as good for me as having a great game or achieving something. Coaching is definitely something I’m going into now and I’ve got great enthusiasm for it."
