F3 racer Sophia Floersch flies through air in horrifying crash

Formula 3 driver Sophia Floersch has been taken to hospital after a horror incident at the Macau Grand Prix.

The horrifying incident took place during Sunday’s race as the 17-year-old’s car flew through the air at high speed before hitting a media section.

Floersch was speeding towards a tight corner when she lost control of her Van Amersfoort Racing car and slammed into an inside wall.

After clipping the guardrail she smashed into fellow driver Sho Tsuboi, with the impact lifting the German high into the air.

The terrifying incident saw Floersch fly over the track and smash into a platform that is used by photographers.

The teenager was taken to hospital as a result of the crash, which spectators compared to a movie scene, but the FIA confirmed she was conscious.

Fellow racer Tsuboi was also transferred to a nearby hospital, as were a marshal and two photographers.

“Following evaluation by medical staff, the driver is conscious and has subsequently been taken to hospital for further evaluation,” the statement read.

The race was unsurprisingly red fagged after the incident.

Floersch made history in Formula 4 and is regarded as one of the most promising prospects in motor racing.

She took part in her first F3 race earlier this year before joining Van Amersfoot.
