Chelsea player ratings: Kepa flaps, Alonso falters and Hudson-Odoi offers hope in shock defeat for Blues

MARCOS ALONSO had a shocker as Chelsea slipped further away from the top four.

The Spaniard gave away a penalty and struggled to deal with Richarlison as the Everton man scored and then won the penalty that saw Everton beat the Blues.

Here, SunSport rates and slates Maurizio Sarri's men as they fall further away from the top four:

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Chelsea's controversial keeper was at fault for Richarlison's tap-in having failed to clear Dominic Calvert-Lewin's header properly. Initially saved Sigurdsson's penalty, but after the Carabao Cup final shocker, Kepa will constantly face the harsh scrutiny.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Struggled with the intensity of the silky speedster Bernard down the left and, despite his best efforts, has been unable to lead in the difficulties faced this season.

Antonio Rudiger

After an untroubled first 45 minutes, the German centre-back was panicked by the pressure of Everton's attack. Misses the protection of N'Golo Kante and Rudiger needs much more support.

David Luiz

Has never provided the assurance necessary for a top-six side and when Everton upped the tempo in the second-half, that did not change. With Luiz, it flips between the beautiful and the bizarre far too often.

Marcos Alonso

Returning to Premier League action after being dropped for Emerson, the Spaniard had a stinker. He was troubled by Richarlison through the second half and clumsily caught the Brazilian in the penalty area which Everton capitalised from.

Jorginho

Showed his remarkable vision with a delightful first-time pass over the top to Gonzalo Higuain who should have converted. But Jorginho's influence didn't pay dividends and he was hooked for Callum Hudson-Odoi.

N'Golo Kante

Movement in midfield has improved but the Frenchman will forever pine the defensive position. Kante playing in the attacking role feels like Tyson Fury racing on a pony at Cheltenham.

Ross Barkley

Constantly booed by his former club but Barkley had impressed early on and came close with a long-range effort. But Chelsea's deficit saw the midfielder hooked after 65 minutes in place of Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Pedro

Wasted an early opportunity when the Spaniard sliced wide after a well-worked move, and Pedro's energy troubled Everton in the first-half. Had the ball in the back of the net with a clinical finish but it was ruled offside.

Eden Hazard

Struck fear into the Toffees defence with two early opportunities that saw one flash just wide and the other crash back off the post. But Hazard was given little service in the second half and was unable to deliver any heroics.

Gonzalo Higuain

Showed a stunning touch to take down Jorginho's through-ball but thrashed his effort wide. The Argentine has not been the man Sarri hoped he would be and is unlikely to still be at Stamford Bridge next year.

Substitutes:

Ruben Loftus-Cheek (for Barkley '65)

Started brightly from the bench but ended up doing more defensive work than attacking.

Olivier Giroud (for Higuain '65)

Had a late opportunity to score but saw his header blocked on the line.

Callum Hudson-Odoi (for Jorginho '74)

Brought some much-needed energy and drew Jordan Pickford into a save with a long-range effort after a direct run.
