Chelsea and Liverpool at war over Timo Werner as Premier League rivals battle for £60m transfer – The Sun

LIVERPOOL and Chelsea are braced to lock horns over a £60million deal to land striker Timo Werner, according to reports.

The RB Leipzig hotshot has been hugely impressive with 18 goals in 17 league appearances this season.

The Blues were favourites to negotiate a deal with boss Frank Lampard ready to spend big on a new striker.

They were already encouraged following Werner's comments that the Premier League "is the most interesting in the world."

Chelsea are ready to let Olivier Giroud leave and bring in enough quality to provide serious competition to Tammy Abraham in attack.

But their pursuit of Werner has taken a major blow with reports that Liverpool are also keeping close tabs.

The Mirror claim that the Premier League leaders are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old although any move would come in the summer.

RB Leipzig will be desperate to keep hold of him until at least the summer as they look to rival Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title.

They currently sit top of the pile, four points above Bayern.

Werner showed exactly why the Prem's top clubs are ready to make their move after scoring an absolute rocket in Saturday's win over Union Berlin.

He scored twice but the pick of the bunch came when he fired a half-volley into the top corner from the edge of the box.
