Borussia Dortmund trying to lure Phil Foden away from Man City to team him up with pal Jadon Sancho

The 18-year-old is in talks to extend his City contract, which runs out in 2020, but the Bundesliga club are keen for his services and are using the success of Sancho to lure him in.

Foden has played  for Man City since he was six-years-old but has never cemented a solid run in the first team – and this has drawn the attention of BVB, as well as RB Leipzig and Paris Saint-Germain who are monitoring the situation of the youngster.

This season Foden has only played 31 minutes of Premier League football for the Premier League champions and this is a stark contrast to his old City team-mate Sancho, who has played nearly every game for Die Borrusen and has been a star performer.

The Dortmund No 7 has made ten appearances this season, recording six assists as well as his first goal for the German outfit.

The rise of Sancho may put Foden on red-alert as he has seen his friend rise above him in the England pecking order – having only played for the Under 21's last week.

The pacey winger made the decision to leave Man City for Dortmund in 2017 in order to get more first team football – and the decision has paid off after making his senior England debut on Friday night against Croatia.

German and French sides know that first team opportunities may lure young English talent abroad after the success of Sancho – who has recorded the most assists of any player in the top leagues in Europe.
