Arsenal set to win Dayot Upamecano transfer battle as RB Leipzig ‘tell AC Milan defender is joining Gunners’ – The Sun

ARSENAL are on course to sign Dayot Upamecano after RB Leipzig told AC Milan the defender will move to the Emirates, Italian reports claim.

The 21-year-old – who has a release clause of £53million – has been a transfer target for a host of European clubs.

But according to to Tuttosport, Milan were told by the Bundesliga outfit that the centre-back is set to sign for the Gunners.

It is claimed Arsenal have snatched a deal ahead of the Italians as they bid to desperately bolster their defence.

With Upamecano's contract expiring next summer, Leipzig will accept a bid for the Frenchman rather than lose him for free.

But Arsenal need to get moving as the release clause expires on June 30.

Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff said: "Upa is an extremely important player for us and one of the most sought after talents in this position in Europe.

"One thing we know is that we have a very clear understanding with him and his adviser, that we will not let him go free.

"We cannot afford that as a club.

"So there are two options: extend or change. I am absolutely certain that we will know relatively quickly which direction we are going."

Upamecano was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away in anger for his side at the weekend.

He was given his marching orders in the 43rd minute of his side's Bundesliga match against Paderborn.
