Arsenal fans mock Deeney for his ‘cojones’ jibe after daft red card for the Watford captain

ARSENAL fans cruelly mocked Troy Deeney for his "cojones" jibe after he was sent off in Watford's 1-0 loss at Vicarage Road on Monday night.

The Hornets skipper was given his marching orders for an elbow on Gunners midfielder Lucas Torreira.

The incident happened in the shadow of Deeney taking a swipe at Arsenal and accusing them of a lack of character when the North London side lost 2-1 in Watford last season.

The striker equalised from the spot to cancel out Per Mertesacker's goal before Tom Cleverly secured the three points for the Hornets in injury time.

Deeney laid into them after the game.

He said: “I’m not going to be one to tell Mr (Arsene) Wenger about himself, but there’s a reason that they lost and it wasn’t because of one penalty.

“I have to watch what I say, but it’s (having) a bit of cojones, is what I’ll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I’ll go up and think ‘let me whack the first one and see who wants it.”

But his comments have turned out to be unfortunate, as Watford have lost all three games against Arsenal since then.

Deeney saw his penalty saved in the reverse fixture at the Emirates last season.

And last night the Hornets skipper was sent off shortly after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang capitalised on Ben Foster's howler to give Unai Emery's side a lead.

Deeney was infuriated when the ref showed him a red card for an elbow on Torreira in the 11th minute.

He was even involved in a heated exchange of words with Emery as he was coming off the pitch.

And although Deeney revealed ahead of the game Gunners fans congratulated him on his "cojones" dig, they were merciless after his incident on Monday night.

One tweeted: "Have y’all noticed that ever since Troy Deeney made his cojones comment about Arsenal, him/Watford have never beat Arsenal."

While another added: "Good evening @T_Deeney, just wondering how your #cojones are on this fine Monday night?"

And a third wrote: "Arsenal lack cojones, Deeney lacks brains. Not sure which I enjoyed more, his penalty miss last season or his red card this season."

And another tweeted: "Showed he’s cojones there didn’t he. Needs to keep he’s mouth shut."

Moh wrote: "HAAAAHAHAHAHAHA @T_Deeney!!! Your brain is about the size of your cojones you absolute muppet!"

While Euan said: "First clean sheet away in the league from home all season. A great game to show some 'cojones'."

October 2017 – Deeney: "Arsenal lack cojones"

March 2018 – Arsenal 3-0 Watford (clean sheet, Deeney misses pen)

September 2018 – Arsenal 2-0 Watford (clean sheet, Deeney booked)

April 2019 – Watford 0-1 Arsenal (clean sheet, Deeney sent off)

Decent team talk.
