Aljazzi ready for tougher test – The Sun

ALJAZZI could step up to Group Three company after opening her Listed account at Haydock on Saturday.

The Prix Bertrand de Tarragon, over nine furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte on September 21, is a possible next port of call for the Marco Botti-trained filly.

Aljazzi got up close home to pip Mix And Mingle by a neck in the Dick Hern Fillies' Stakes in what was her first race since she was well-beaten in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket three months ago.

"I'm very happy with the way she's taken the race. I haven't had chance to talk to the owners about where we go next, but my first impression is that they would like to step her up in class," said Botti.

"The original plan was to go to Haydock and then go for the Listed race at Yarmouth. Now she's won a Listed race they might want to go up in class.

"We did run her in the Guineas thinking she was going to be a nice filly, but it came too soon and she wasn't ready for it mentally. Hopefully yesterday was a stepping-stone.

"We haven't entered her in another Group One. It probably wouldn't be right for her yet.

"There's a Group Three at Maisons-Laffitte on September 21. That could be the next target, but I'll discuss it with the owners.

"That race is a mile and one furlong but we would be happy to step her up to a mile and a quarter. We will step her up in trip.

"She did handle the fast ground yesterday, but it wasn't ideal conditions for her. She'd prefer a bit of give in the ground."
