  • MAN UTD missed a trick in not signing Tottenham star Christian Eriksen as he would have made a 'big difference' to the side, according to Paul Scholes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer kept tabs on the Danish midfielder, 27, and United were willing to pay £80million for his services.

The Danish midfielder has also been on Real Madrid's radar, but SunSport claim he could end up staying at Spurs.

Scholes said: “I was quite excited when Christian Eriksen got mentioned.

“He could have made a big difference to United in the way [Kevin] De Bruyne plays for City, creating chances and scoring goals.

“They haven't got that but they have some good players so the target is top four and I think they will make it.”

  • FORMER Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas thinks Mauricio Pochettino could quit Tottenham if he received a “crazy” job offer from Real Madrid.

The Argentine, 47, revealed back in May he had already turned down a chance to manage Los Blancos last summer.

He told Express Sport: “If Mauricio gets a crazy job offer – for example, if Real Madrid came in for him, which is quite possible – who turns down Real Madrid?

“If he went there and won trophies, he would be just like a lot of other Real Madrid managers.

“But if he could win something big at Tottenham, it would be very special after the amount of time and effort he's put into building the team.

“If he is going to leave, he deserves to go with a winner's medal in his pocket, but the fact is Tottenham last won a trophy in 2008 – and I can remember it because I was playing.”

Spurs won the game 3-1 having come from behind thanks to goals from record signing Tanguy Ndombele and Harry Kane.
