The best-laid plans of men trying to be romantic often go awry.
Rose petals sprinkled lovingly on the bedsheets is a move we've all seen in the movies, and one well-meaning bed sheet set took inspiration from the gesture to allow couples to enjoy the experience every night.
The bedding features a white duvet cover and pillow cases complete with a red rose flower pattern – but everyone discovered it didn't quite have the desired affect after being shared online.
Twitter user John Donoghue posted a photo of the offending sheets , which others have described as 'horrific' and a 'murder scene', writing: "That awkward moment when you realise that your romantic new 'white with rose bud' bedding set makes your boudoir resemble a particularly gruesome crime scene…"
The snap looks like something straight out of a horror film as the sheets appear as though they have been drenched in puddles of blood, which is particularly haunting on the pillow cases as the red splatter focuses nicely where you can imagine a victim's head to be.

Unsurprisingly, the post quickly went viral, racking up more than 7,400 likes – and not everyone was buying his explanation.
"New bedding, yeah yeah," replied one detective. "Own up, where have you buried her?"
A second wrote: "Three shots to the head closely grouped, clearly a professional job."
A third said: "He was such a quiet chap. The perfect neighbour. We never thought he would be capable of… that…"
Another asked: "Does it come with a matching chalk body outline patterned rug?"
Some suggested the bed spread may be the perfect answer to getting rid of those house guests who outstay their welcome, while others wondered if he had bought it from the set of the Godfather.
