Mystery formation of 20 floating ‘objects’ baffles onlookers as footage emerges

Bizarre lights were seen in the sky over Torquay last night, baffling residents who counted up to 20 mysterious glowing orbs.

People witnessed the lights floating across the bay from around 4.20pm, with the final four said to all appear at once, Devon Live reports.

Pictures show what look like large orange orbs of light floating in the sky above the hills.

Some residents speculated that the lights may have been a meteor shower.

But it wasn't meteorites, UFOs or even a visit from Father Christmas.

HM Coastguard confirmed that the lights were flares being used for a training exercise to train new recruits and said it had taken longer than expected.

“The last four came all at once.

“All previous appeared one by one. #strange #lightsInSky #torquay.”

Another user wrote that the lights initially had them worried but they then sussed out what they were.

They tweeted: "Flares being fired over the sea on Torquay side of Torbay.

"Was concerned til I saw three go off at once from Corbyn head.
