Asics new smart shoe can make you a better runner

Asics new smart shoe can make you a better runner – and give you performance feedback in real time

Would you buy trainers which can make you a faster, stronger runner? Well, soon it will be a reality.

Asics has developed a new smart shoe which can do exactly that, monitoring how you run, and giving feedback on how to improve your performance in real time.

It works by using a smart sensor placed inside the shoe, which sits between the sole and upper.

The sensor then opens all the motion data that spreads through your foot with each step, allowing Asics to offer dedicated training insights.

The Japanese footwear brand intends to launch its first range of smart shoes, which were unveiled at CES 2020, later this year.

The exact specifics have yet to be revealed, but it could signal a new age for sports technology that will only get better over time.

Asics also revealed its Evoride shoes, its lightest, most affordable energy-saving running shoes to date, which will be available to buy globally from February 7, 2020.

The shoes are built around Asics’ revolutionary Guidesole technology, engineered to minimise movement in the lower leg, helping runners save energy and run more efficiently.

This technology is one of the most important innovations in Asics’ 70-year history and has created a completely new category of running shoes for the industry.

Energy efficiency is essential for runners who want to perform and stay healthy.

For both everyday runners and elite athletes, smart shoes help not only to increase performance, but also to protect from burnout and injury.

Asics Executive Officer Kenichi Harano said: ‘One of our core strategies at Asics is to enrich sports experiences through digital technologies.

‘We’re so excited to share what we’ve been working on at the Institute of Sport Science.’
