In more recent years, Swift has seemed to tone it down with her love life. Whether she had stopped dating people altogether or was just more private about it, the fact remained that it had been a little while since we had seen Swift back up to her old romantic antics.
But when the singer skipped the Grammys to be by actor Joe Alwyn’s side, we knew something had to be up. This relationship had been brewing for a while but seemed to have gotten pretty serious to keep Swift from an award show where her album Reputation was nominated and a fan favorite to win.
So how did these two come together?
The Beginning

No one really knows exactly where Alwyn and his singer boo met. Though, as always, Swift’s song lyrics give us a few clues.
In her song Dress, she says “Flashback to when you met me/ Your buzz cut/ And my hair bleached.”
Both Swift and Alwyn attended the Met Gala in 2016 with those haircuts that she mentioned in the song. Could be a long shot but with Swift lyrics, nothing is just a song.
The only problem with this theory is that Swift was still with her boyfriend Calvin Harris at the time.
A month later, Harris and Swift broke up. But then she quickly began dating Tom Hiddleston. The relationship was shortlived and the two went their separate ways in September of 2016.
Fast forward to October of that year and Swift went to a Kings of Leon concert that Alwyn also attended. It is believed that they were possibly at the show together.
Relationship Rumors
In May of 2017, the relationship was finally made public through reports from The Sun.

“Taylor and Joe are the real deal, this is a very serious relationship,” a source told the news outlet. “But after what happened with Tom Hiddleston, they were determined to keep it quiet.”
Swift had reportedly been visiting the actor at his house in London quite frequently.
“Taylor has flown in via private jets and her security has made it a military-like mission to prevent her from being seen,” the source added.
In October of 2017, Swift’s friend Ed Sheeran seemed to confirm the relationship while on Capital Breakfast.
“He’s really nice,” Sheeran said of Swift’s rumored beau. “Really, really friendly, really good dude.”
The next month more sources started to speak about the couple openly.

“It’s a great relationship that everyone hopes will last,” a source told PEOPLE. “Joe could definitely be the one.”
In April of 2018, it seemed like Swift was looking to make things a little more convenient for her and Alwyn and wanted to buy a house in Crouch End in north London.
“Taylor loves the UK and how she can live a relatively normal life without being disturbed,” a source told The Sun. “Setting down roots is something she’s thought long and hard about. She’s set aside £30million to find the house of her dreams, which she hopes to one day settle down in with Joe if their relationship continues to grow.”

In November of that year, Swift finally tagged Alwyn on Instagram, promoting his movie The Favourite.
Which brings us to the night of the 2019 BAFTA awards, where Swift ditched the Grammys to support her now confirmed boyfriend as his film won several awards.
