Robbie Williams jokes ‘golf is the new crack’ after overcoming drug addiction

Robbie Williams joked "golf is the new crack" after turning his life around following his battle with drugs and alcohol.

The British singer, 45, discussed his past demons in an interview with Stellar magazine, and explained he asked for help for his addiction.

Robbie, who recently released a Christmas album, said he's taken up the sport because it allows him to "mediate" and concentrate on other things.

Discussing his similarities between himself and American rocker Alice Cooper, who is always a fan of the golf, he said: "Alice Cooper was a raging drug addict and he used to play golf every day, and I totally get it because I'm one too."

Tallying up the pros of taking to the green, he admitted he likes the exercise and the renewed sense of purpose.

"I get to raise my serotonin levels, I get to walk for five miles, I get to better myself, I have purpose – there's a meditation in there because you're just thinking about the next shot," he added.

His comments come after the Angels hitmaker finally completed the renovations to his £18million Holland Park home.

Ending his battle with neighbour Jonny page over the grand refurbishment, along with years of locking horns with planning officials, Robbie will no doubt be enjoying his two-floor basement extension with a pool, gym and recording studio.

However, despite all the mod-cons, the former Take That member has decided to move into a £2,000 a night hotel in London because he feels his abode "has bad energy".

According to the MailOnline, the 45-year-old now splits his time between the hotel in London and his Wiltshire estate.
