Paul Gascoigne said he ‘got aroused’ during chat to Hollyoaks’ Stephanie Davis

Paul Gascoigne once joked to a packed room how he got an erection after seeing Hollyoaks babe Stephanie Davis.

The sporting legend left Steph in hysterics after he told a packed room at Liverpool's Silvestrian Suites about the awkward incident in 2018.

At the time Steph was working hard to rebuild her life after her infamous relationship with Jeremy McConnell saw her hit rock bottom.

Speaking to the room as Steph looked on, Gazza gestured to Steph before adding: "She's fit as f*** isn't she.

"As we were talking I had a f***ing hard on.

"That's what she said, she said 'f***ing hell Gazza you've got a small organ'."

Laughing he added: "I said yeah but I've never played in a f***ing cathedral before."

Steph briefly shared a clip of the moment on her Instagram story last month to celebrate Gazza's 54th birthday.

The pair have a close bond after bonding over their troubles.

Previously posting online about their friendship, Steph said: "This is the most special, caring, kind most beautiful person inside and out who I hold so close to my heart.

Gazza and Paul have both publicly battled alcoholism, with Steph tragically telling Lorraine Kelly she feared she wouldn't live to see her son Caben-Albi's first birthday.

In August 2018 Steph retuned to Hollyoaks to reprise her role as Sinead O’Connor.

Last summer she confirmed she would be leaving the soap after reaching a 'mutual agreement' with show bosses.

Confirming her departure, she posted on Instagram: "I have loved bringing Sinead into your homes for the past ten years but it's with a heavy heart I have decided to leave Hollyoaks and now looking forward to working on new and exciting projects. Excited!"

A rep for Hollyoaks said at the time: "In mutual agreement with Lime Pictures, Stephanie Davis is leaving her role as Sinead O'Connor on Hollyoaks.

"We would like to thank Stephanie for her huge contribution to the show and the enjoyment her character Sinead has brought to fans."
