During the special night, Fergie also makes an electrifying surprise comeback appearance as she joins Jack Harlow in the middle of his ‘First Class’ performance.
AceShowbiz -The 2022 MTV VMAs is filled with epic performances. On Sunday night, August 28, Lizzo delivers her “Special” songs with special visuals while BLACKPINK successfully makes Taylor Swift and Dylan O’Brien dance to their new single.
Lizzo brought the energy to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey with a highly electrifying performance. The 34-year-old femcee took the stage in an all-pink ensemble to sing a snippet of her hit “About Damn Time” before transitioning to her latest single “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready),” both from her fourth studio album, “Special.”
She pulled out all the stops, channeling Beyonce Knowles‘ “Run the World (Girls)” performance at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards, where the “Cuff It” songstress famously synched her dance moves with the large video screen behind her.
In addition to her performance, Lizzo, who rocked the red carpet in a unique voluminous Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown, was nominated for five awards at this year’s VMAs, including, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Video, Song of Summer and Video for Good, an award that highlights music videos with positive social messages.
As for BLACKPINK, they lit up the stage with their explosive “Pink Venom” performance. It marked the first time they brought their new single from their latest studio album “Born Pink” to television.
The highly-choreographed appearance, which also marked the global superstars’ first U.S. awards show performance, allowed the South Korean girl group to showcase both their finely honed dance skills, as well as each member’s individual talents, alongside a group of backup dancers.
Seemingly enjoying BLACKPINK’s performance were Taylor and her “All Too Well: The Short Film” cinematographer and producer Dylan. The “All Too Well” hitmaker and “The Maze Runner” star were caught dancing to BLACKPINK’s song, with the pop star even lip-syncing the lyrics.
Not stopping there, Taylor also shared a new TikTok video with BLACKPINK’s “Pink Venom” after enjoying the girl group’s performance. In the video, the “Love Story” songstress showed off her VMAs transformation. She also sang along with the song during the first part of the clip.
Back to the award show, the audience was left shocked after Fergie (Stacy Ferguson) joined Jack Harlow during his “First Class” performance. The 47-year-old superstar performed live for the first time in four years.
Fergie sang her iconic track “Glamorous” with Jack after he brought “First Class”, which samples Fergie’s 2006 hit. For the night, Fergie looked glamorous in her silver mini dress while Jack looked dazzling in his sparkly black outfit.
Also taking the stage were Dove Cameron, Conan Gray as well as Marshmello x Khalid. Dove belted out her two latest hit singles “Boyfriend” and “Breakfast” while Conan performed his hit singles “Disaster” and “Memories”. As for Marshmello and Khalid, they delivered flashy visuals, slick dance moves and pure rave energy with “Numb”.
The 2022 VMAs are being hosted by Nicki Minaj, LL Cool J and Jack. Doja Cat, Jack and Harry Styles are up for the most awards this year, with 8 each. Billie Eilish, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Taylor and The Weeknd scored 5 nominations.
