Actress Barbara Bosson has sadly died aged 83.

The Emmy-nominated Hollywood actress passed away on Saturday (February 18) as her director son, Jesse Bochco, shared an announcement.

Her son penned a heart-warming tribute on social media, which read: “More spirit and zest than you could shake a stick at. When she loved you, you felt it without a doubt. If she didn’t, you may well have also known that too. Forever in our hearts. I love you, Mama.”

The actress’s cause of death has not been revealed.

Barbara is famed for starring in the hit NBC show Hill Street Blues, where she was nominated for five consecutive Emmys for playing the show’s Fay Furrillo.

The actress was also Emmy nominated for her role as prosecutor Miriam Grasso on ABC’s Murder One.

The actress starred in a variety of crime and detective-related shows, including Cop Rock, CBA detective series Mannix and NBC’s Richie Brokelan, Private Eye.

Her later roles include stints in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, ABC’s Total Security and the movie Scattering Dad.

She also made guest appearances on LA Law and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

However, her appearance in Hill Street Blues, which her then-husband Steven Bochco directed, is what she’s most known for, as she remained on the series from 1981-86.

It was during this time that she earned multiple Supporting Actress Emmy nominations every year from 1981-85.

Her storylines on the cop-based show include her character having a baby in Season 4 and later becoming romantically involved with Henry Goldblume (Joe Spano).

She is survived by her son Jesse, daughter Melissa and two grandchildren.

Following news of her death, tributes have since been shared on social media.

Bosch star Titus Welliver, who appeared with Bosson in Murder One, wrote a love message to his follower.

“The beautiful and wonderful Barbara Bosson has left us,” he wrote.

“Colleague, friend and surrogate mother. My heart is shattered by her departure. Bow your heads for her loved ones who are so very devastated by her departure. Love you Babs, you made us all better with your kindness.”
