Flight attendant rants about most annoying passenger habits on board

Flight attendant, 20, rants about the most annoying passenger habits on board – and almost everyone is guilty of at least one

  • A flight attendant has shared the worst things you can do on board
  • The Australian woman shared real life examples of annoying habits

An Aussie flight attendant has shared the 10 most infuriating passenger habits she faces on board every day.

Sarsha Petterson, from Melbourne, slammed passengers with complicated food orders, those who refuse to follow instructions and people who change their babies on food trays.

The 20-year-old gets particularly annoyed with passengers who treat cabin crew rudely, and those who are uncooperative and stubborn.

A surprisingly common habit is passengers choosing to change their baby’s nappies on the tray table, and acting outraged when they are not allowed.

‘You can’t actually change your baby’s nappy on that tray table, because people eat off of it, and there’s also people sitting next to you, it’s quite unhygienic,’ she said, mimicking conversations she has had with passengers.

Another annoying issue she encounters with parents is when they refuse to put the seatbelt on their baby because they are sleeping.

‘She does need her seatbelt on because as we descend it does get quite bumpy and I wouldn’t want her to go flying in the air and then come down and hit her head on something,’ Sarsha said.

A major pet peeve is when passengers demand for the flight to be quicker.

‘Why are we delayed? I need to leave now,’ Sarsha said, mimicking a passenger.

‘All right, I’ll just go in and tell the captain that we need to leave now because the lady in row two said that we need to leave now,’ she joked.

She also said it is very annoying when passengers take their anger out on the cabin crew.

‘This is the worst flight I’ve ever been on, I’m never coming back,’ she mimicked.

The number one think that annoys Sarsha is when a flier gets annoyed when she asks them for their boarding pass, which is something she must do as every passenger boards.

She explained that passengers won’t hand over their pass because they know their seat number and don’t think they need help, but the check is actually to ensure the passenger is on the right flight.

Another pet peeve is when cabin crew asks passengers to take up their blinds for landing and they refuse.

The purpose of the task is to allow staff to see if there are any dangers such as if a wing caught fire, but many passengers get annoyed if they are resting or if the sun is in their eyes.

Sarsha also criticised passengers with complicated or unrealistic food and drink orders.

She gave an example of a picky flyer who asked for a black tea with milk, but wouldn’t accept a white tea, which is what a black tea with milk is.

She also poked fun at fliers who don’t understand the airplane doesn’t have a large kitchen and that most of the food is pre-made.

She explained passengers often ask for sandwiches with fresh ingredients added, despite the fact they are pre-prepared.

The young flight attendant also hates when passengers ask her to heat up their food, but they don’t have a microwave on board.

‘We don’t actually have electricity on board, so there’s nowhere to plug the microwave in to, because we’re in the air on a plane,’ she explained.

She also gave an example of one time when a passenger had a $15 voucher to buy something on the plane, but they were just annoyed as they didn’t understand why they had it.

‘Fine, I’ll buy something,’ Sarsha mimicked.
