Former Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston to open up about his life in new memoir

Former Doctor Who leading man Christopher Eccleston has announced that he is writing his memoirs to be published next year.

The memoir will see the actor not only discuss his career, which saw him star in multiple hard-hitting dramas and travel through time and space, but also share more about his upbringing in 1970s Salford and the effect that his father’s dementia has had on him.

“My father was an ‘ordinary man’, which of course means he was extraordinary,” Eccleston said (via The Bookseller). “I aim to capture him and his impact on my life and career.”

The publishing director of non-fiction at Simon & Schuster UK, Iain MacGregor, added: “Like many, many people across Britain today, Chris bears the pain and loss of a dear parent who was taken by this incredibly vile condition.

“He wanted to not only record his father’s journey, but to celebrate his life, and that of his family also. We are privileged he has decided to take this journey with Simon & Schuster UK.”

The actor has previously spoken about seeing his father Ronnie suffer with the disease, and how he stopped recognising his son before he passed away in 2012. Back in 2016, the star appeared in an advert for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Christopher Eccleston’s memoirs, I Love the Bones of You, will be published in September 2019.
