Emmerdale’s Liv Flaherty star, Isobel Steele, addressed her character’s asexuality storyline and her surprise at the public reaction.
The 20-year-old actress has played Liv Flaherty since 2016, who is the first asexual character in a British soap.
Speaking to Digital Spy the Isobel said: "I didn't really think that it would be as well-received as it has been. I've received loads of messages thanking the show and thanking me for portraying this.
“I didn't realise how many people it affected, so that has come as a nice shock – that we're doing good and breaking down barriers. That's what we do as a soap, so I'm really proud to be involved in that.
“I think the writers have done a brilliant job of not making Liv's character all about the asexuality. They've been able to spread it across all of the storylines and let it weave in and out of her life.”
She also talked about wanting former co-star Ryan Hawley, who played Robert Sugden, to return to the show, saying “We do miss that dynamic.”

Isobel continued: "Me and Danny [Miller] spoke about this the other day, actually. We do miss Ryan a lot. We were really close when we filmed together.
“When you're filming every day, you become really good friends. We do miss that dynamic and I know that the fans do as well.
“Hopefully they convince him to come back! He's just had a baby, so I don't know how soon he'd be coming back, so fingers crossed."

Isobel added that Emmerdale fans can expect a major forthcoming stunt in the works, that not even COVID managed to prevent.
She said: "Filming during COVID is compromised for every area of the team. We all have to compromise our jobs a little bit to make the show safe and to get it out there.”
"So, it came as a surprise, especially when I learned that it was going to go ahead in such a 'normal' way. There was no compromise in the actual week itself. I really trust that we've managed to make it work."
