Elton John has been announced as Glastonbury Festival’s first headline act in 2023.
The 75-year-old is set to perform on the legendary Pyramid Stage next June and will sadly mark his final ever UK show on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Elton spoke about his appearance at the UK’s most iconic festival: “I couldn’t be more excited to be headlining the Pyramid Stage […] there is [a] no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans.”

He continued: “They have been beyond brilliant and have supported me through all the highs and lows of my career […] I can’t wait to embrace the spirit of the greatest festival in the world. It’s going to be incredibly emotional.”
The Rocket Man singer’s performance will take place on Sunday 25 June 2023 at Somerset’s Worthy Farm.
Event organiser Emily Eavis also spoke about the momentous announcement and told fans that it will be “the mother of all send offs”.
She also told fans that the festival is “very happy to finally bring” Elton to Glastonbury, a festival which has been running since September 1970.
Excited fans rushed to share the news on social media and many couldn’t believe that the star will be making his festival debut next year.
One wrote: “Great to hear the living musical genius [and] legend Sir Elton John is to headline Glastonbury 2023. What an artist [and] what an incredible catalogue of Captain Fantastic music.”
Another keen fan said that “Elton will do nicely” and that they are now “buzzing for Glasto,” while another festival goer promised that they will be “in the middle and dancing while it rains glitter”.
More fans were clearly over the moon as they thanked the event for booking such a musical icon and one simply branded the even as “a bit special”.
Elton is the only officially confirmed musician on the lineup while Papaphone have self confirmed that they will be playing on the Horizon stage.
There are strong rumours surrounding other big name artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Fatboy Slim, Pulp and Craig Charles.
Speculation is also clouding around The 1975, Rihanna, Harry Styles and Eminem.
