Yuliya Efimova may have the most intense quarantine workout you've ever seen.
The Russian competitive swimmer obviously has to keep in shape even when she can't spend most of her time in the pool, and she showed off exactly how she's done just that while at home.
In a recent clip posted to her personal Instagram, Efimova is seen taking viewers through just a few of her moves. With music playing softly in the background, Yuliya hops on her kitchen counter and dangles off the side of it, practicing her stroke as it looks like she's showing off a modified version of planking. It looks like an optical illusion, but she really has that kind of body control.
Later in the clip, she's seen doing a few moves on a mat she has laid out in her home, with knees bent pushing up off the floor. It looks like a challenge, to be sure, and has to be physically taxing. But Yuliya pushes through her workout like a pro, even the parts that look like they've taken years to perfect beyond the whole swimming thing.
"Swim well, land or kitchen," Yuliya captioned her clip in Russian, translated via Google Translate. "Everything new is well forgotten! Catch some exercises for swimming on land so to speak. Don’t be sad and do not get sick. P.S. I’m swimming better than I’m talking and shooting a video. and on a creature so-so. But always on the positive."
The swimmer has previously won several Olympic medals across the board, including the bronze medal for the 200 meter breaststroke in 2012 and silver medals in the 100 meter and 200 meter breaststroke in 2016. She's a six-time World Champion as well, and a former world record holder for the 50 meter breaststroke.
These uncertain times have many of us looking to be a bit more creative when it comes to staying in shape, but it seems like Yuliya here may have us all beaten in terms of sheer effort and efficacy. It might be worth adopting some of these moves and seeing if they do your body some good!
