Christmas Day is a welcome day off for many Brits, and for retail workers across the country, December 25 couldn’t come soon enough. With the big day finally here and most of the country off work to celebrate the big day, many major retailers will keep their doors closed until December 26. These are the Christmas Day opening hours you should know for Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and Asda.

Is Tesco open on Christmas Day?

This major retailer operates 4,008 stores across the UK and Ireland and has topped the ranks as the UK’s largest supermarket chain.

Traditionally, the ‘big four’ supermarkets close their doors on Christmas Day and this year is no different.

Tesco stores across the country will not be opening today to allow their hard-working staff to enjoy some much-needed time off.

This includes all stores both large and small, as well as Tesco petrol stations across the UK.

Most Tesco stores in England will re-open on Boxing Day from around 10am-4pm or 11am-5pm.

Larger stores in Scotland and Wales will remain closed until December 27.

Will Sainsbury’s be open on Christmas Day?

Sainsbury’s will not be opening again until December 27 following the retailer’s announcement of a two-day closing period.

Earlier this year, the major retailer announced it would be closing all stores, including Argos and Habitat, on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Sainsbury’s will not re-open until December 27, with larger stores opening their doors from 8am-8pm and smaller stores working between 7am-10pm.

Opening times are expected to vary across the country so you should use a store tool finder to check opening hours of stores near you.

Is Aldi open on Christmas Day?

After closing its doors at 6pm on Christmas Eve, Aldi stores across the country will remain shut until December 27.

The leading budget retailer will not open any of its 11,235 stores across the country today to allow staff to take a break from the busy Christmas rush.

Aldi stores have been working overtime in the run up to Christmas Day with most stores staying open until the later time of 10pm.

Once store-workers have enjoyed their much needed two-day break, Aldi shoppers will be welcomed back for business as usual from December 27 at 8am.

Hours may vary between December 27 and January 1, so be sure to check opening hours near you before heading down to your local Aldi.

Will Asda open on Christmas Day?

Asda shoppers will not be able to visit stores today with a nationwide closure of all stores in aid of the Christmas celebrations.

Retail workers at this supermarket giant will be able to take some hard-earned time off to spend with family and friends.

Stores are expected to re-open with reduced hours on Boxing Day if you are in need of some extra groceries as the festivities continue.

Opening hours may vary across branches though most are thought to be open from 10am-4pm or 11am-5pm on Boxing Day, and between 8am-8pm on December 27.
