Robyn just dropped one of the best new albums of 2018

It’s been eight years — an eternity in pop music — since Robyn released her dance pop-opus “Body Talk,” featuring the electro-infused twirlers “Call Your Girlfriend,” “Dancing on My Own” and “Hang with Me.”

Anticipation for the follow-up, “Honey,” was heightened after she released its first single, “Missing U,” this summer. If anything, the new album, released Friday, exceeds the deliriously high expectations fans had built for the Swedish diva.

It’s instantly one of the best LPs of 2018.

Here are some highlights that we are immediately showing much love:

“Missing U”

The first single and opening track feels like a sequel to “With Every Heartbeat,” Robyn’s now-classic 2007 breakup anthem. Pulsing with bittersweet longing — and some tinkling synths — it’s the perfect sonic tonic for the one who got away.

“Baby Forgive Me/Send to Robyn Immediately”

Technically these are two separate tracks, but they are two parts of one mesmerizing whole. “Baby Forgive Me” — a moody groove serving plenty of soul to go along with its hypno-electro ambience — segues seamlessly into “Send to Robyn Immediately,” which features a seductive sample of Lil Louis’ 1989 house jam, “French Kiss.”

“Beach2k20”

Robyn has often kept one foot in the clubs and one in the mainstream, but here she commits fully to the underground with some deep-house beats that recall the after-hours sexiness of ”Erotica”-era Madonna.

“Ever Again”

The final track on ”Honey,” a Prince-esque pop confection, takes Robyn back to melodic heaven. “I’m never gonna be broken-hearted ever again,” she sings. And with this blissed-out bounce, you believe her.
