Reckless motorcyclists filmed speeding through traffic at nearly 200mph

A "colossally stupid and massively selfish" motorcyclist was captured hitting speeds of nearly 200mph on a dual carriageway before police finally caught up with him.

Reckless rider Thomas Ettridge clock up the staggering speed on a 70mph stretch of road – overtaking other road users at life-risking speeds.

He and his two friends have now been sentenced.

Ettridge can also be seen pulling a wheelie at 80mph in a 40mph zone during the clip, which was caught on a GoPro camera.

Other stunning moments in the video include a rider undertaking a car at a zebra crossing and speeding at 130mph in a 40mph area with busy traffic.

He can be seen flying at around 190mph on the A21 at Hastings, East Sussex.

Ettridge's pal Thomas Hayden was seen doing a wheelie at 70mph in a 30mph zone – for 170 metres.

Ettridge, 26, was filming the ride on the A21 from Kent to Sussex on April 20.

Police received a number of reports of dangerous driving during the day and later seized Ettridge's GoPro, which had been attached to his helmet and was used as evidence.

The three appeared at Hove Crown Court, East Sussex, on November 20 and admitted dangerous driving.

A judge branded their actions "colossally stupid and massively selfish".

Ettridge, of Dartford, Kent, was jailed for 10 months and disqualified from driving for 29 months from the date of his release.

Hayden, 26, of Greenwich, south east London, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment and disqualified from driving for 27 months from the date of release.

Matthew McLaven, 28, of Welling, south east London, was handed a four-month sentence, suspended for 18 months.

He has been disqualified from driving for two years and must also carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

They must all take an extended re-test if they want to get back on the roads after their bans.

Police have now released the footage to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding.

Police Constable Chris Welsh of Sussex Police said: "This has been a shocking investigation into some of the fastest and most dangerous motorcycling I have ever come across.

"The speeds and general aggressive manner of the riding identified are simply ridiculous and leave no room for error should the slightest of issues have occurred.

"Not only are the riders risking their own lives, but also those of the other road users around them throughout these journeys.

"This sentencing should act as a stark reminder of the consequences of such behaviour on the roads in Sussex.

"We will not tolerate dangerous driving by any motorist on our roads, and anyone caught committing such offences will be investigated and dealt with robustly."
