  • Meghan wrote a note saying ‘Thanks for everything’ which Julie said she will ‘treasure forever’

Meghan Markle  ‘gave a shop assistant her autograph in 2009’ before she starred on Suits ‘in case she ever became famous’, a viral Instagram account has claimed.

LA-based account Overheard Celebs, which posts about celebrity encounters, shared a story submitted by a woman named Julie claimed she had met the now Duchess of Sussex, now 39, while working as shop assistant in Vancouver, before Meghan got her big break on Suits.

Julie said Meghan bought a purse from her and spoke of her job as an actress, before asking for an autograph ‘in case she ever got famous’.

She said she would ‘treasure the note forever’, sharing a snap of the royal’s  elegant script, which read: ‘Julie, thanks for everything, Meghan Markle.’

The post, which was shared yesterday, reads: ‘I met a sweet woman in 2009 while working retail, when she purchased a purse from me.

‘We got to chatting, and she mentioned she was an actress currently filming in Vancouver.

‘I didn’t think much of it, but asked if I could have her autograph so I could say I had it once she became famous. She chuckled and said, “yes, of course.”

‘I wished her luck and never saw her again. Two years later, I flipped on my TV to see her starring in Suits.

The post claims the Duchess of Sussex, who was then working as an actress and was yet to land her role on Suits, brought a purse from her and said she was currently filming in Vancouver (Meghan is pictured speaking to Oprah on her special earlier this month)

‘I was really happy that her dreams came true. And just when I thought being on a successful TV show was cool, she then ended up marrying into one of the most famous families in the world, becoming The Duchess of Sussex.’

She continued: ‘I’ll treasure Meghan’s note forever.’

In 2009 Meghan had guest starred in various network TV shows including 90201, CSI and Knight Rider.

She also worked as a ‘Suitcase Girl’ on Deal or No Deal where she starred for 36 episodes.

In 2009, she was a guest star on J.J. Abrams’ series Fringe, which was filmed in Vancouver and may have been what Meghan was filming at the time of Julie’s story.

The royal’s big break came three years later in 2011 where she landed the role of paralegal Rachel Zane on Suits, starring as the love interest for the show’s protagonist Mike Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams.

LA-based account Overheard Celebs , which posts stories of celebrity encounters shared a story submitted by a woman named Julie who met the now Duchess of Sussex while working as shop assistant.

The sweet note also shows Meghan’s distinctive handwriting.

While jobbing as an actress Meghan also did work as freelance calligrapher, and wrote the invitations for celebrities Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s wedding in 2005.

The royal bride also taught calligraphy, gift-wrapping and book-binding at the Paper Source store in Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2005.

Meghan wrote about her love of handwritten notes on her defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig saying: ‘I think handwritten notes are a lost art form.

‘When I booked my first [TV] pilot, my dad wrote me a letter that I still have. The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.’

At the time, the Duchess was working as an actress, with guest roles in various network TV shows including 90201, CSI and Knight Rider (pictured, in September 2019)

Meghan gave up her acting career in 2017 when she married Prince Harry, but has done voiceover work for Disney since stepping down as a senior royal in 2019.

The post comes as Prince William was photographed looking glum while driving in London after Meghan’s friend Gayle King revealed Prince Harry had spoken to him and their father Charles for the first time following the bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The CBS presenter, who attended Meghan’s $500,000 baby shower in 2019, said the Sussexes told her that Harry had talked to the Duke of Cambridge and Prince of Wales over the weekend.

But she said the conversations were ‘not productive’ and the Sussexes were keen for the ‘royals to intervene and tell the Press to stop with the unfair, inaccurate, false stories that definitely have a racial slant’.

Ms King, 66, who is also close friends with Oprah, failed to give any examples of the stories she was referring to, but added that Meghan has ‘documents to back up everything that she said on Oprah’s interview’.
