Meghan and Kate set for day out together at Wimbledon

Meghan Markle will join her sister-in-law the Duchess of Cambridge to watch the women's final at Wimbledon this weekend.

The two royal women, who are both big tennis fans, will be in the crowd as Meghan's pal Serena Williams takes on Simona Halep.

It's the first time they have been seen together officially just the two of them since rumours of huge fallout, including reports that Kate was in tears at Princess Charlotte's bridesmaid dress fitting.

They watched the match together last year and it was their first joint engagement at a pair.

They seemed happy and relaxed in each other's company, chatting and laughing during breaks.

On the Sunday Kate, who is patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, will return with Prince William to watch the men's final while Meghan and Prince Harry attend the Lion King premier in London.

The announcement was made on social media by the official Kensington Palace twitter account this morning.

It said: "The Duchess of Cambridge, Patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, and The Duchess of Sussex will attend the Ladies' Singles Final at The Championships, Wimbledon on Saturday 13th July."

Both royal women, who were together at a charity polo match earlier this week, have been to earlier days of the competition but on different days.

Kate, a Wimbledon regular since 2011, went along on day two to watch British number four Harriet Dart , ranked 182 in the world, take on American Christina McHale.

She also took a seat in Court 1's Royal Box to later to watch defending champion Angelique Kerber's opener and Wimbledon king Roger Federer in her role as patron of the All England Club.

Meghan went to watch her friend Serena in the second round of the competition, but her visit ended up being quite controversial .

The Duchess of Sussex sat in the middle of a large number of empty seats and fellow  tennis fans sitting near her were banned from taking photos of her  –  even if they weren't trying to  – despite the match and clips of her sitting in the crowd being shown live on the BBC.

A source at the All England Club has told  The Times  that the new mum was a "nightmare" and organising the visit had been difficult.

There were also reports that Meghan wasn't invited into the Royal Box as she was wearing jeans, however this is said not to be the case.

The source told the newspaper: "She wanted to come incognito but there was problems. They couldn't invite her into the royal box because was wearing jeans but that didn't really matter because all she wanted to do was come and watch Serena."

Another added: "It was a nightmare, she was a nightmare."

The source also claims that Meghan made a "massive faux pas" by going to see her friend Serena but not staying to watch Andy Murray afterwards.

They said: "Andy Murray was on Court 1 afterwards and it was a massive faux pas not to watch a Brit when she is signed up to the royal family."

However Meghan went to see Serena as a private engagement as the two women have been friends for years, meeting years before the Duchess married into the royal family.
