Makeup artist says trolls are just ‘jealous’ of her fake lips

Woman who is branded a ‘train wreck’ over her fake pout insists trolls are just jealous of her confidence – after she spent £1,300 to boost her ‘tiny lips’

  • Shauna Sargeant, 22, from Oakdale, Wales, constantly receives cruel taunts
  • She has spent £1,300 on her fake lips so far and has been called a ‘trout pout’
  • The beautician says the bullies who steal her photos are just jealous

A makeup artist who is ridiculed over her fake lips has hit back at ‘jealous and bitter’ internet bullies who branded her a ‘train wreck’.

Shauna Sargeant, 22, from Oakdale, Caerphilly in Wales, is constantly subjected to cruel taunts from internet trolls who steal photos of her latest makeup looks and post them with nasty comments mocking her large lips.

But the freelance beautician, who has spent £1,300 on lip fillers after becoming ‘really insecure’ about her tiny lips, is adamant that people who insist on ‘slating’ her are just jealous.

‘I definitely think they’re posting out of jealousy. Maybe they’re just bitter they don’t have the confidence to go out there and try new looks like I do.’

Before having fillers, Shauna was very self-conscious about the size of her lips and used to use lip liner to ‘overdraw’ them to make them look bigger

She continued: ‘They like to ridicule people for having that confidence. I’m trying to take it as a compliment. They’re stealing my photos so I must be doing something right. I’m not stealing their photos.

Shauna finds her pictures plastered across social media with hurtful captions such as ‘trout pout’ and ‘fish lips’.

But Shauna refuses to let it get her down as she loves her luscious lips, which contain 4ml of fillers, and works hard to pay for them.

‘I’ve had my lips done and people look at me like I must be in the clinic every day, but I’m really not,’ said Shauna. ‘People just don’t know what they’re talking about.

The 22-year-old finds her pictures plastered across social media almost every day with hurtful captions such as ‘trout pout’ and ‘fish lips’

She continued: ‘People that go and get their lips done have obviously had insecurities about that, so to pick up on that and make fun of it is a really low blow.’

‘But it’s a daily thing, I see it all the time. I’m in a makeup group where I post my pictures and everyone is so supportive but my photos are being stolen. It’s happening to me and so many girls, we’re being slated.

‘Our pictures are taken without permission and they’re just being ridiculed. It’s disgusting and totally uncalled for.’

But Shauna is determined to ignore the trolls and has even done a ‘green with envy’ inspired makeup look to hammer home her defiance.

‘One person said my lips look like I’ve had the laughs sucked out of me like in Monsters Inc,’ she explained. ‘That’s nothing to do with my makeup, it’s actually just mocking my face. I worked hard to pay for the lips I wanted so I’m definitely going to flaunt them.’

She added: ‘I decided to use the negativity to inspire me and did a green with envy makeup look. It went down really well. I’m going to keep on being defiant and flaunting myself.

‘It doesn’t matter what any bullies have to say, they’re not going to take my dreams and ambitions away from me.’

‘I love my lips, I’m so happy with them,’ explained Shauna. ‘They have helped me become more confident. Before I had them done, I was really self-conscious. I felt really insecure. I had had tiny lips and I used to overdraw them so they looked bigger.’

But two years ago, Shauna decided to take the plunge and pay £230 to have 1ml of fillers injected into her lips before having an additional 0.5ml top-up one month later for £100.

Since then the cosmetologist has had four more 1ml injections at £230 a go, spending a total of £1,250 so far.

Shauna believes some people hide behind fake accounts to steal photos and ‘tear each other down’, ignoring the real consequences of their brutal words.

‘I’m so sick of seeing people tear each other down,’ she explained. ‘I think they use fake accounts. And I think being online definitely makes it easier for people. It dehumanises it.’

She continued: ‘It’s not easy to insult someone to their face because you see that raw emotion of upset or anger but on social media you’re protected.’

‘They are just words you’ve typed on a screen. They haven’t even come out of your mouth so it’s like you haven’t really said them or done anything.’

‘It’s like the trolls don’t see real life and digital life as the same but it is all the same and those words have real consequences. They hurt just the same.’

‘My appearance is very important to me so seeing someone ridicule it, it’s taken very personally. It’s all I think about on a daily basis.

Speaking of the emotion she goes through when she reads the cruel jibes, Shauna said: ‘When I see those posts, I start shaking and my anxiety goes through the roof.’

But Shauna is part of a makeup group which she claims has helped her deal with the backlash she receives on a daily basis.

‘The support from my makeup group has helped so much but then someone has to come along and try to knock you back down,’ she said. ‘I think people should just ignore the bullies.’

She added: ‘The only one living your life is you and the only one who can make you happy is you so I won’t let them get in between me and my love of makeup or my lips. And to the bullies, I’d tell them to put that negativity into something positive.’

While their upkeep isn’t cheap, Shauna wouldn’t change her lips as she credits them for boosting her self-esteem which in turn allowed her to launch her career. Above, with her boyfriend Liam

Praising the confidence her fake lips have given her, Shauna explained: ‘I would tell anyone thinking about having their lips done that if they can afford it and they’re happy then go for it. Do what makes you happy’

‘If they put that energy into saying one nice thing or doing one good deed, the world would be a much better place.’

Shauna has to visit the clinic roughly once every four months to keep her lips the size they are now.

While their upkeep isn’t cheap, Shauna wouldn’t change them for the world as she credits them for boosting her self-esteem which in turn allowed her to launch her career.

‘I love my lips, I’m so happy with them. I like the size they are now. I get a 1ml top up every four to six months. That’s how long they last but nobody seems to understand that.’

She added: ‘There’s so many misconceptions about having your lips done. I would tell anyone thinking about having their lips done that if they can afford it and they’re happy then go for it. Do what makes you happy.’

‘My lips have stopped me being so self-conscious and helped me go out and meet more clients and go to more events.’
