'Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal': This Is When You Can Watch the New Lifetime Movie About the Royal Couple

It might be hard to believe, but it’s been almost a year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married. Lifetime is planning to mark the anniversary — and the expected arrival of a royal baby — with a full slate of royal programming, including a brand-new made-for-TV movie about the couple.

‘Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal’ premieres May 27

Last year, Lifetime aired a movie about the prince and his bride-to-be called Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance. Now, the network is planning a follow-up that will offer an unauthorized look at the couple’s first year of marriage.

According to the network, the movie “continues the love story of newlyweds … pulling back the curtain to reveal the untold joys and challenges of life inside the Royal Family during their pivotal first year of marriage. Beyond blending their families and cultures, Harry and Meghan’s core values are put to the test as they try to find the balance between honoring Royal tradition and staying true to their beliefs.”

Based on the trailer — which promises to go “beyond the fairy tale” — the Lifetime movie looks like it will be packed with romance. It will also delve into Meghan’s anxiety as she assumes her new royal role. “I just feel like I’m pretending to be this beautiful swan,” she tells another woman in a scene from the movie.

So far, the palace hasn’t commented on the new Lifetime movie. The royals also stayed quiet about last year’s film, though word was they were concerned about that movie’s sex scene.

Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal stars Charlie Field as Harry and Tiffany Smith as Meghan. (Those aren’t the same actors who portrayed the couple in last year’s movie.) Laura Mitchell plays Kate Middleton, Jordan Whalen is Prince William, and Charles Shaughnessy is Prince Charles. It premieres on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27 at 8 p.m. and will air again on May 28 at the same time. The second presentation will include behind-the-scenes interviews with the two stars.

Lifetime’s other royal programming

Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal isn’t the only new royal programming Lifetime has in the works. The network will also air two new specials.

Meghan’s New Life: The Real Princess Diaries will premiere on May 19 at 10 p.m. This doc will look at “how Meghan has been adjusting in the first weeks and months after her wedding.” It will explore the royal family dynamics, Meghan’s relationship with the Queen, and how the Duchess is navigating her first pregnancy in the public eye.

The second special, Meghan & Harry: Baby Fever, will air on May 27 at 10:30 p.m. after Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal. Perhaps by that time Baby Sussex will have arrived and fans will have gotten a glimpse at the infant who will be seventh in line to the throne.

Lifetime will also rebroadcast Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance on May 19 at 8 p.m. Royal fans know that’s the same day as the Duke and Duchess’s first anniversary — how appropriate!
