Extreme high slit dresses are the latest celebrity trend

Thighs the limit! How VERY daring dresses with hip-skimming slits have become the sexiest celebrity fashion trend as stars like Pixie Lott, Ana de Armas and Maya Henry ‘own their bodies’ after months in lockdown

  • Celebrities are stepping out in full length dresses with a slit that goes to the crotch – or higher – in the sexiest fashion trend on the red carpet
  • Pixie Lott, Nicole Scherzinger, and Ana de Armas have all tried the look
  • It’s the latest sex-positive style celebrities have been sporting post lockdown, as experts say women are reclaiming their bodies and their sexuality

From Pixie Lott to Kimberley Garner, celebrities wanting to ‘own their body confidence’ after months stuck in lockdown are daring to bare in slashed dresses with dramatic hip-high slits.

The trend, favoured by stars in the late 1990s and early 2000s, involves gowns that are cut in a daring line up to the crotch – or higher, in some cases – with carefully placed underwear worn to stop any unintentional flashing.

For extra excitement, the bodice of the dress is often cut away around the torso or chest, leaving even more flesh on show.

Some like reality TV star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace have taken the trend even further, exposing almost her entire derrière in a black cutaway dress that barely covered her bottom.

The rise of the ultra slashed dress is part of a wider trend for seriously sexed-up pieces post-lockdown, with bustier tops, sheer ‘naked’ dresses and low-rise jeans with exposed thongs all on the rise.

Speaking to FEMAIL, stylist Rochelle White explained the gowns bring together the need for a more liberated way of dressing and the resurgence in 2000s fashion.

‘We are seeing a rise in the high rise splits on red carpets and award shows as celebrities are looking to show off and flash more flesh post lockdown,’ she said.

‘With so many people including celebrities living in loungewear, this is a way of expressing themselves and also owning their body confidence.

‘Not to mention that there has been a resurgence in not only 2000s fashion, but also short skirts and side splits.’

Aisleyne, Nicole Sherzinger and Kimberly Garner have all stepped out in hip-high slit dresses this week.

This week model Maya Henry also posed up a storm in a racy ensemble, which featured a soaring thigh-high split which revealed a glimpse of her derriere and toned legs for an outing in Paris

Aisleyne left very little to the imagination on Wednesday night as she proudly showed off the results of her Brazilian Butt Lift at the Proud Embankment for the PINK annual charity fundraiser.

The Big Brother star appeared to ditch her underwear to fully exhibit her hourglass figure – most notably her derriere – in an extremely revealing slit black number.

Meanwhile, Kimberly Garner,  30, put on a very racy display in a daring white cut out gown as she walked the red carpet for the star-studded screening on No Time to Die last week.

She wowed the crowds with a matching floor length skirt that slashed to the thigh, revealing a glimpse of her long slender legs.

Pixie Lott opted for a barely-there dress for a date night with her husband, while Maya Henry opted for a slightly more demure take on the trend and wore a red gown tied together down the side by loose straps that threatened to come undone.

Previously, brand expert and publicist Brenda Gabriel told FEMAIL there could be a link between the all-out sexiness being flaunted on the red carpet and a rise of a ‘new wave of feminism’.

She explained: ‘Not dissimilar to what we see every decade. In the 90s we had the Spice Girls with in your face Girl Power. Women who weren’t afraid to go after what they wanted and weren’t afraid to be vocal about it.

‘By 2016 we had Kim K, Beyonce, Rihanna and leading the way for women to own their hotness regardless of what anyone else had to say. Remember that selfie where Kim and Emily Ratajkowski took on take on body shamers with a very NSFW bathroom snap?

‘With the #meetoo movement, we saw women come together in solidarity over shared experiences of sexual harassment.

‘With this solidarity we saw a shift from victim/slut shaming to women refusing to take on the outdated societal perceptions and expectations. Women’s sexuality and sex was something that had always ‘belonged’ to men.

‘#Metoo wasn’t just an opportunity for pulling back the curtain on inequality, it provided an opportunity for women to take back female sexuality and be unapologetic about it.’
