From Pixie Lott to Kimberley Garner, celebrities wanting to ‘own their body confidence’ after months stuck in lockdown are daring to bare in slashed dresses with dramatic hip-high slits.
The trend, favoured by stars in the late 1990s and early 2000s, involves gowns that are cut in a daring line up to the crotch – or higher, in some cases – with carefully placed underwear worn to stop any unintentional flashing.
For extra excitement, the bodice of the dress is often cut away around the torso or chest, leaving even more flesh on show.
Some like reality TV star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace have taken the trend even further, exposing almost her entire derrière in a black cutaway dress that barely covered her bottom.

The rise of the ultra slashed dress is part of a wider trend for seriously sexed-up pieces post-lockdown, with bustier tops, sheer ‘naked’ dresses and low-rise jeans with exposed thongs all on the rise.
Speaking to FEMAIL, stylist Rochelle White explained the gowns bring together the need for a more liberated way of dressing and the resurgence in 2000s fashion.
‘We are seeing a rise in the high rise splits on red carpets and award shows as celebrities are looking to show off and flash more flesh post lockdown,’ she said.
‘With so many people including celebrities living in loungewear, this is a way of expressing themselves and also owning their body confidence.
‘Not to mention that there has been a resurgence in not only 2000s fashion, but also short skirts and side splits.’

Aisleyne left very little to the imagination on Wednesday night as she proudly showed off the results of her Brazilian Butt Lift at the Proud Embankment for the PINK annual charity fundraiser.

Pixie Lott opted for a barely-there dress for a date night with her husband, while Maya Henry opted for a slightly more demure take on the trend and wore a red gown tied together down the side by loose straps that threatened to come undone.
Previously, brand expert and publicist Brenda Gabriel told FEMAIL there could be a link between the all-out sexiness being flaunted on the red carpet and a rise of a ‘new wave of feminism’.
She explained: ‘Not dissimilar to what we see every decade. In the 90s we had the Spice Girls with in your face Girl Power. Women who weren’t afraid to go after what they wanted and weren’t afraid to be vocal about it.
