Drag queen icon Lady Bunny will bring her gallows humor to Jersey on Sunday. The “Wigstock” creator will perform her show, “Pig In a Wig At The Drive-In” at Westfield State Plaza.
“There will be lots of corona jokes – lots of ‘Drag Race’ jokes… There’s something called gallows humor, when you’re about to step up to be hung, you’ll pretty much say anything,” Bunny told Page Six. “That’s how many of us made it through the AIDS crisis when our friends were dropping like flies — we made tasteless jokes.”
She’s been cooped up in her West Village apartment since March.
“I’m a people person, so I don’t like not being able to socialize… I’m trying to help out the neighborhood, so sometimes I just put on a mask and high heels and nothing else, and I found that it’s a very effective way to break up crowds of people. They just run away screaming,” Bunny quipped.
“I’m spending a lot of time at home. I wish I could socially distance myself from the refrigerator… I’ve been flattening my curve with Spanx, and since the plastic surgeon is closed I’ve been substituting McDonalds for fillers and it has the same effect as plumping my cheeks.”
Despite getting some flack for her pandemic jokes, Bunny told us she’s not afraid of getting canceled. “As the great Monet X Change says, ‘Bunny can’t get canceled cuz she stay canceled.’ Look, [I’ll] be 58 on August 14, and I could die of [Covid-19]. I’m in a couple of high- risk groups. So, at this point, I’m just going to seek out the audience that appreciates what I do and pay the other ones no mind,” she said.
