By 2022, Disney will have transformed Central Florida into the most breathtaking, magical place on Earth — and will likely become the No. 1 destination for Star Wars fans.
But we’ll get to Star Wars in just a moment.
Disney has four new resorts currently underway, one of which is inspired by nature.
The new mixed-use Disney resort will be integrated seamlessly with its natural surroundings of Bay Lake, Florida, and it’ll be located between Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort campground.
The resort will boast 900 hotel rooms and several Disney Vacation Club villas throughout the property.
"This resort experience will be a celebration of Walt Disney’s lifelong love and respect for nature, with some fun and even surprising accommodation types that families will find irresistible," says Terri Schultz, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Vacation Club, in a press release.
The accommodations Schultz mentions are proposed Disney Vacation Club villas “spread across a variety of unique accommodation types.” No word on what exactly this means, but we can only assume Disney will have something for everyone.
Up next is Disney Riviera Resort, which is currently under construction near Epcot. This resort, anticipated to open in 2019, will have about 300 rooms and will connect to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the International Gateway at Epcot via the Disney Skyliner.
Also slated to open in 2019 is the completely reimagined Coronado Springs Resort. The resort will have a new 15-story tower overlooking the resort’s lake, Lago Dorado. Other new features include an additional 545 rooms and suits, a two-level entrance lobby in the tower and rooftop dining with panoramic views. The existing 1,800 guest rooms will also be fully renovated.
And we saved the best for last: An immersive Star Wars-inspired destination will also be built at Walt Disney World Resort. It’ll be seamlessly connected to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Considered a first-of-its-kind resort, this destination is described as a “completely immersive experience into an authentic Star Wars story as guests depart together for a multi-day adventure aboard their starship.”
That said, yes, you’ll also find Chewbacca and the rest of your favorite Star Wars characters bopping around the property just begging to get their photo taken with you.
"We continue to add new attractions, new lands — and these beautiful accommodations will be right in the heart of all that magic,” says Walt Disney World Resort President George A. Kalogridis.
Kalogridis adds that all four resorts will help drive economic opportunity for Central Florida.
"Walt Disney World is in the midst of our most significant expansion in the last two decades and the combined 1,700 new hotel rooms and proposed Disney Vacation Club villas we are building at four different resorts will create thousands of new construction and permanent jobs and will drive economic opportunity and incremental revenue for Central Florida," Kalogridis says.
While we don’t know the name of the nature-inspired resort just yet, we do know that the second it opens, we’ll be planning a trip to Florida, stat.
