Boy, 2, found next to parents’ bodies slept through ‘murder-suicide’

A toddler was asleep during his parents' tragic murder-suicide, meaning he won't remember their deaths.

The boy was found alive and asleep next to the bodies of his dad Kiril, 31, and mum Lana, 33, at their rented home in Burton, Staffordshire.

The two-year-old was found alongside his parents by their roommate, who walked in to find the Latvian couple's bodies.

The tot, who is being looked after with the family's dogs by friend Nikita Ascuks and his wife, is said to be "safe and well."

Today Staffordshire Police announced that Lana's death was treated treated as murder.

It is thought that Kiril killed himself.

No other suspects are being sought by the force.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Ison said: "An investigation into the two deaths is ongoing.

"Following initial enquiries, the 33-year-old woman's death is being treated as murder and the 31-year-old’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

"At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else and a post-mortem is due to take place to establish the cause of death.

"The man and woman's families have been informed and have asked that they are given privacy at this difficult time."

Mr Ascuks said the couple's death came as a shock.

"Lana and Kiril were the perfect, happy couple," he told The Sun.

"They got on so well.

"No-one knows what has happened yet. We have to wait for the police investigation.”

Staff at Boots Opticians in Burton town centre, where Lana worked as an optometrist, were today given time off by bosses after learning of the tragedy.
