The caption reads: ‘Thank you @IFAWWestminster [International Fund for Animal Welfare] for the best birthday card! This has brightened my day. The work you do is amazing.’

It is not known whether Miss Symonds and Mr Johnson will mark the occasions but any celebrations are likely to be kept low-key due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Prime Minister announced last night that people should stop socialising, work from home, avoid travelling and that whole households should stay in isolation if one person becomes ill.

And a report by leading scientists who are advising the Government said people may need to keep up the drastic lifestyle change well into 2021.

The Imperial College COVID-19 Response Team predicted that 260,000 people could have died if the Government hadn’t changed tack yesterday and tightened its rules.

As a pregnant woman, Miss Symonds is among a vulnerable group and so will likely be in self-isolation at home.

The expectant mother was last seen alongside Mr Johnson at the Commonwealth Day Service at Wesminster Abbey last week.

Twitter followers came together to wish Carrie a happy birthday and urged her to ‘stay safe’

It marked the couple’s first joint public outing since the shock announcement that they are engaged and expecting a baby in the early summer.

Announcing the news on Instagram, Carrie shared an intimate photo of her and Mr Johnson, 55, with the caption: ‘I wouldn’t normally post this kind of thing on here but I wanted my friends to find out from me.’

The date of their wedding has not been announced, but it will mark the first time in at least 250 years a sitting prime minister has married while in office.
