Best face oil under £10

Palmers Coconut Oil Formula Coconut Monoi Luminous Hydrating Facial Oil, £9.99 here

Extra virgin coconut oil is the hero ingredient in this oil, which promises 24-hour moisture without leaving a greasy feeling.

Tester says: “A little goes a long way, so use sparingly unless you want to look like you’re basting your face. Once I’d stopped being heavy-handed, I thought this was a really good-value oil that plumped up my skin and smelled like summer.” 4/5

Best face oil for spot-prone skin

Trilogy Hemphip Balancing Oil, £22.50 here

Aimed at combination skin, this contains hemp, rosehip, jojoba and grape seed oils along with salicylic acid.

Tester says: “This feels really nourishing – a feeling lasts for a long time on the skin – yet it doesn’t feel like it’s clogging my pores. My face can sometimes be a bit oily or blemish-prone and when it is, I wouldn’t normally use an oil, but I trust this to nourish my skin without making me break out.” 4/5

Best face oil for dull skin

Whind Marrakech Light Illuminating Magic Oil, £69 here

A blend of nine antioxidant-rich oils plus a natural warm amber fragrance.

Tester says: “This really delivers on the promise of luminising your complexion. My skin looked glowy but not at all greasy, and it felt supple and smooth within seconds. The scent is absolutely intoxicating too.” 5/5

Best face oil for fine lines

Beauty Pie Plantastic Overnight Miracle Face Oil, £12.16 here (members' price)

Containing nourishing plant oils plus antioxidants, algae extract and bakuchiol – a natural alternative to retinol.

Tester says: “This has a bit of an earthy, botanical smell (perhaps from the algae extract), which I actually don’t mind. It wasn’t the quickest absorbing – I could still notice it on my skin when my head hit the pillow half an hour later – but I was impressed with the results come morning; my face felt soft and plump, and patches of dry skin had disappeared.” 3/5

Best face oil for soothing sore skin

The Body Shop CBD Restoring Facial Oil, £25 here

This lightweight oil is designed to calm stressed skin, addressing symptoms such as dryness, dullness and irritation.

Tester says: “I would never normally use a face oil when I’m suffering with breakouts for fear of clogging my pores even more, but I took the plunge and applied a small amount of this at night. The results were remarkable – areas of spots that were red and flaky looked noticeably calmer and less inflamed come morning, and my skin felt more hydrated even by the end of the day. This has been a revelation!” 5/5

Best face oil for first-timers

Botanics Simply Calm Facial Oil, £11.49 here

Another harnessing the skin-soothing powers of the cannabis sativa plant, this blends together hemp seed oil with argan and lavender oils.

Tester says: “You can smell the lavender in this, which I love, and it certainly adds to the soothing experience. Other than a hit of hydration, I didn’t notice any other major skincare benefits, but it also didn’t leave my skin feeling overly oily or result in any breakouts. A great choice for facial oil newbies.” 3/5

Best face oil for firming skin

Weleda Pomegranate Firming Facial Oil, £38.95 here

Pomegranate is naturally rich in antioxidants, and here it’s combined with seven other organic plant oils into a blend that.

Tester says: “This is incredibly lightweight – not quite that ‘dry oil’ texture but very easily absorbed, and light enough to use in the morning before make-up. Skin feels immediately soft and hydrated, without any greasy feeling. It’s excellent at giving skin hydration, an instant glow and a healthy look.” 4/5

Best face oil for a spa-like scent

TRUE Skincare Rejuvenating Cacay & Frankincense Facial Oil, £17 here

Made with cacay seed oil, sourced from the Amazon rainforest, plus frankincense, this oil has a silky texture and youth-boosting properties – plus it also smells incredible.

Tester says: “I immediately adored the smell of this – an intoxicating blend of essential oils. I do find it a little heavy for my combination skin, and it does pill a bit when layered over serums, but it works well when used with a gua sha tool for a quick at-home facial massage.” 3/5
