Armed robber threatens Tesco cashier with ‘gun’ before carjacking woman

This is the moment a terrified Tesco worker came face-to-face with an armed gunman – before he carjacked a woman to make his getaway

Ayoud Adchiri can be seen pointing a 'black handgun ' at a worker inside the supermarket in the Hodge Hill area of Birmingham.

He threatened the cashier as she was serving customers, including a child, and demanding cash in the frightening ten second raid on Tuesday, June 4.

The 20-year-old can be seen walking behind her desk before raiding the till and fleeing the store at around 4.30pm.

The robber then approached a woman in the car park and demanded the keys to her Vauxhall Corsa, Birmingham Live reported.

She had been in the car with her sister-in-law and five-year-old niece when Adchiri threatened her with the gun, which was later found to be fake, and a kitchen knife.

He then fled in the stolen car, despite only holding a provisional license.

After police were alerted they spotted the Corsa driving at speed on the wrong side of the road. It smashed into another car on Bradford Road, Castle Bromwich, a short time later. No one was seriously injured.

Adchiri was arrested and a search of the stolen car recovered an imitation firearm and a knife.

Cash was found in his jacket, and the CCTV confirmed he was the Tesco robber.

Adchiri, of Newbury Lane, Oldbury, pleaded guilty to two counts of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, threatening someone with a bladed article, dangerous driving and without having insurance or a license.

He was jailed for eight years at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.

Detective Sergeant Tom Lyons, from force CID, said: "Adchiri had directly threatened two people, stolen cash, a car, and caused what could have been a serious collision in under 20 minutes.

"He put others in fear of their lives as they, understandably, believed it was a real gun and Adchiri had threatened to use it.

"He appeared to get even more aggressive as he also produced a knife on the second robbery; and then put lives at risk through his reckless driving.

"Officers were promptly on the scene to arrest him following the collision and CCTV confirmed he was responsible for the crime spree. A dangerous man is now behind bars for a significant period."
